Our First Acquisition: Pet Recess

For 20 years, Julia Dixon built Pet Recess from the ground up. She started in a small home in Middleboro, Massachusetts, in 2006, because she couldn’t find a daycare she trusted for her own two Labradoodles. Two decades later, it had grown into a 15,000-square-foot resort in Lakeville with 23 employees and roughly 1,200 families who trust her team with their dogs every week.

When Julia started thinking about what came next, the money was never the hard part. What she cared about most was her team, the people who had spent years building relationships with every dog and every family who walked through the door. She wasn’t willing to hand that off to just anyone.

So she waited. For five years, Julia looked for the right fit before saying yes to anyone.

She found it in Community Pet Resorts. The whole team stayed on. They’re continuing to lead Pet Recess’s growth alongside Dave, working through decisions together to drive the next phase forward.

Today, Julia’s retired. By her own account, she’s living her best life.
